April 25, 2025Three out of every four workers in the State are employed in an Irish owned business according to new data from the Central Statistics Office. Irish-owned enterprises accounted for 74.9% of total employment and 65.2% of total earnings in 2023.
The newly released data also revealed that employment in US-owned enterprises accounted for 9.0% of total employment and 17.1% of total earnings.
While EU-owned enterprises accounted for 5.2% of total employment and 6.1% of earnings, UK-owned enterprises accounted for a further 4.9% of employment and 4.7% of earnings. Across almost all sectors, Irish-owned enterprises accounted for the largest proportion of employment.
The one exception was in Information & Communication, where US-owned enterprises accounted for 43.2% of employment and 59.1% of the total earnings.
